Real Science vs Gym Science
SYNERGY Fitness Professionals

The fitness industry has evolved faster and farther in recent years than most realize.  Traditionally, exercise is one of those subjects that has been taught based solely on custom.  Basically, in 1920, some guy did some exercise that he liked; he showed someone else who showed someone else and so on.  Not until the last 10 years has a personal trainer been more than just a “pin pusher” and a “rep counter.”  The “personal trainer” of years past was always the biggest, strongest, and most sculpted guy in the gym.  There is nothing wrong with that however it is unreasonable to assume that someone knows what they are doing simply because they have achieved the goal you desire.  There is a huge difference between real science and “gym science.”  Genetics play a role in how people respond to different stimulus.  Looking great in the mirror may be a primary goal, however with exercise it is truly what’s on the inside that counts.   A person may look great on the outside, but the outside is not an indicator of what a person may have done to their ligaments, tendons and joints on the inside.

Today, more people work in offices, have longer work hours, use better technology and automation, are required to move less on a daily basis, and eat more than ever.  As a consequence, we see increased incidents of injury including: low back pain, knee injuries, chronic diseases, musculoskeletal injuries, and obesity.

In working with today’s typical client, Fitness Professionals must take special consideration when designing programs.  An integrated approach should be used to create safe programs that consider the functional capacity for each individual person.  They must address factors such as appropriate forms of flexibility, increasing strength and endurance, and training in different types of environments.

Integrated training is a concept that takes a systematic approach to fitness and incorporates all forms of training in an integrated fashion as part of a progressive system.

The Fitness Professionals of Synergy Fitness Systems train their clients based upon the real science of the 6 Components of Fitness and the National Academy of Sports Medicine’s Optimum Performance Training Model (OPT).   “The OPT Model was conceptualized as a training program for a society that has more structural imbalances and susceptibility to injury than ever before.  It is a process of programming that systematically progresses ANY client to ANY goal.  The OPT Model is built upon a foundation of principles that progressively and systematically allow ANY client to achieve optimum levels of physiological, physical, and performance adaptations including:

Physiological Benefits

  • Improves cardiorespiratory efficiency
  • Enhances beneficial endocrine and serum lipid adaptations
  • Increases metabolic efficiency
  • Increases tissue tensile strength
  • Increases bone density

Physical Benefits

  • Decreases body fat
  • Increases lean body mass (muscle)

Performance Benefits

  • Strength
  • Power
  • Endurance
  • Flexibility
  • Speed
  • Agility
  • Balance

The OPT Model is based on the scientific rationale of human movement science.  Each stage has a designated purpose that provides the client with a systematic approach for progressing towards his/her individual goals, as well as addressing his/her specific needs.  Now, more than ever; it is imperative that Fitness Professionals fully understand all components of programming as well as the correct order in which those components must be addressed to help their clients achieve success.” (NASM)

Stabilization, strength, and power! The shortest distance between two points is a straight line.    With Synergy Fitness Systems, the NASM OPT Model, and the 6 Components of Fitness, you can finally achieve results that last.  Reach your goal quickly and safely.
